One of the early benefits of doing sequences of yogasanas (yoga postures) is the improved range of movement for your body. You will find easier and more pleasurable ways to move. This will greatly improve the quality of your daily life. There is also a direct positive influence on cognitive function (thinking, reasoning, remembering) and emotional function.

As we rehabilitate incorrect movement patterns, we get rid of aches, anxiety, and tension.

Why bother with private yoga?

While there are many benefits to be gained from attending group yoga classes, an ideal way for many people to learn yoga is through a private consultation and instruction.

In a private yoga lesson with me, your individual needs will be discussed and assessed. From this, an individual practice of postures and breathing will be developed and taught; one that is appropriate for your particular needs. Individual needs that I always consider include general health, specific injuries or conditions, age, strength, suppleness, and other circumstances.

Your private class may also include a small group, where 2 or more students practice together.

What if I’m not flexible?
This is the most common misconception which prevents many people from starting yoga.
If your body is stiff, please join us anyway. The new ‘freedom’ of the increased and pain-free range of movement will empower every area of your daily life.

Is this a class for a Beginner?
Yes. I teach beginners all the time. Allow him to figure things out for you. My first priority is that you feel successful and that you feel a good difference. Our kind of yoga class is NOT intense, like many other classes may be.
(Please note: if you’re an experienced yogi, or looking for a ‘workout’, I may offer you a referral to another teacher.)

I’m trying to lose weight and tone my body. Is your yoga class right for me?
Yes. The exercises in the class require some strength and balance, which means as you attempt them you will be working virtually every major (and minor!) muscle group in the body. However, please know that in order for you to lose weight in a healthy way, doing more than yoga is necessary.

Is it hard?
No. And yes. Yoga practice may be challenging in many ways; you are learning to acquire a balance of breath, strength, flexibility, and focus. In the beginning, you will be challenged by the poses simply because you are learning a combination of unfamiliar movements. As you gain experience, you will find that you will want to challenge yourself and strive toward perfecting each of the yogic exercises. We do keep the level of intensity low on purpose, though. That way you will feel energized, but not exhausted.

I have a yoga video at home. Is your yoga class similar to that?
No. The presence of an experienced instructor would be an invaluable part of your practice because the poses require specific instructions, timing, and corrections. And my gentle yoga style is not to be missed.
